Eagle Robotics is part of FIRST, which is similar to VEX, but not as common in this area. However, they do have occasional FIRST Lego League competitions in the area. Here’s a link to the search tool which will show local competitions in this area. There may be listed now, but check back on in the future to see if events have been added. There are typically a couple of competitions down in the Santa Maria area in the first few months of the year.
Team 973 Greybots, another local FIRST team in Atascadero, runs a summer robotics camp. They usually run camps in June and July, and you can find more information on their web site:

You’ll find many more teams further south in Santa Barbara and Ventura areas.

There is a competition in September at SLO High. It’s free and open to the public to watch (and price you might see is for team registration).
