The
club is intended to develop and support a competitive robotics
team that will be competing in the US First robotics competitions.
The
objectives of the club are:
1.
To help students to see how exciting engineering, science,
and technology in industry and education can be.
2.
To develop a team that will build a robot to compete at the
US First robotics competition.
3.
To develop and organize a facility to build this robot (room
809), now known and the Eagle Robotics Development Center
(ERDC).
4.
To develop a parent group that will help with Marketing, Fundraising,
outreach activities, and other non-technical activities needed
to support the team.
5.
To spark the excitement in the local industry and business
leaders about the potential of Arroyo Grande High School students.
6.
To encourage businesses, industry and individuals to donate
equipment as well as engineering expertise that would help
the robotics team build a competitive robot.
Each member of the club will be asked
to step forward and make a difference in their own future
and the team. Students who decide to be involved will end
up as changed individuals.
They will be more confident of their abilities and
skills. They will be
able to really see what engineering; science and math are
all about through application as well as spending time with
people who work in industry.
The
team’s main objective is to develop and build a robot that
can compete in the US First competition. The
club and the team need to work closely to accomplish these
goals.
The
competition objectives for the robot are not known until January
6th of 2007. At
that time US First will tell us exactly what the robot is
to do and will give us some of the materials we will use.
We will only have six weeks to complete the robot to
compete in the challenge.
We will need to, within the first week, come up with
some prototypes of the robot so we can see if they will be
able to accomplish the goals set by the robotic challenge.
Each week there will be some very high goals so that
we can complete the robot on time. This will take quite a bit of time and effort
on our part. Those
that choose to be part of the team will commit to spend the
time to build the robot. Those who do not feel they can commit to the
time needed to follow through on the project should reconsider
their involvement.
What
do we need to make this happen?
We need:
1.
Professionals from the community that are willing to work
along side the students to teach them how to accomplish the
task at hand.
2.
We will need to raise quite a bit of money to pay for tools,
equipment and travel expenses.
3.
We will also need to get a group of parents and other relatives
that are willing to help with raising money, providing food
during building season and other tasks that will support the
team in our effort.
4.
Students willing to commit to the time required to make the
dream a reality. (close
to 100 hours per team member during the building season) Some
of the jobs that need to be filled on the team are:
a.
Electrical specialists
b.
Mechanical specialist
c.
Photographer (video and still)
d.
Fabrication specialist
e.
Web designer
f.
Recruiter
g.
Controller (keeping track of the money)
h.
Purchasing specialist
i.

j.
Many others to be added later.
